DONNELLSON – The Central Lee boys' and girls' golf teams are coming off different seasons in 2025, but both are looking for improvements.
The boys' squad is coming off one of their best seasons in recent memory and looking for a return to the state golf meet.
Mylan Lowenberg and Carson Morrison were both named 1st team all SEISC South as the Hawks went 6-0 in duals and 49-4 in individual match records under Head Coach Mike Ungerer, who in his 40th year coaching the Hawks.
Ungerer has compiled a 230-123-3 mark over the four decades.
Joining Senior Lowenberg and junior Morrison are senior Caleb Larson and junior Carter Jones. Larson was 2nd team all-conference while Jones was 3rd-team. Junior Kaden Swan was honorable mention last year and junior Carver Hayes will also push for time this season. Freshman Hayden Welch and Senior Owen Swan are newcomers who could push for time.
“With six of seven players returning, we should be able to win the conference again this year and finish higher than our 8th-place finish at state,” Ungerer said.
The Hawks had multiple players win medalist honors last year and Ungerer said that dynamic will be in play again this spring.
“If we continue to improve throughout the season and have a good day, we should advance as a team or individuals in the post season.”
The girls' squad is coming off a rebuilding season in 2025 and will return Marie Young and Lily Smith, both seniors. Key newcomers include Senior Makayla Mertens, Brynnlie Howard and Summer Hunold, both juniors. The rest vying for varsity time include Leah Azinger and Ava Derr, both sophomores.
The girls went 0-5-1 last season and 1-31-1 in overall match records in 2025.
“We have enough players for a full team score, but with the weather and spring break (family vacations), I don’t know yet how good the new players are,” he said.
