Hawks get post-season awards

Hounds, Lady Hounds get sweeps over Keokuk

DONNELLSON – The Central Lee Hawks landed three players on the Class 3A All-State team for the 2026 golf season. Freshman Hayden Welch, senior Caleb Larson, and junior Carson Morrison were all named to the Class 3A 2nd-team by the Iowa High School Golf Coaches' Assocation. Mylan Lowenberg and Larson were both honored with Academic All-State designations Monday.
Also at Central Lee, senior Peter Seyb was named to the 1st-team All SEI Super Conference boys' soccer team. Seyb finished the year with nine goals on 27 shots on goal for a 33% efficiency. Junior Mason Sanders and senior Colton Taft were named to the 2nd-team. Zach Estrada and Nathan Newberry were both given honorable mention.
Sophomore keeper Aubree Bunnell was named to the girls' SEI Super Conference All-Conference team.  Bunnell led the Super Conference in saves with 218, 38 more than any other player in the conference, and had a 69.4% save percentage.

Fort Madison boys sweep Keokuk
KEOKUK – Owen Huffman and Brae Hill combined to shut out the Keokuk Chiefs in game one of a doubleheader Monday night in Keokuk.
Huffman went 4 2/3, striking out seven and walking a couple, while allowing no hits in the appearance. Hill went the other 2 1/3, fanning three and walking two, while also not allowing a hit.
The Hounds played small ball in the 4-0 win in game 1 amassing just three hits. They scored a run in the top of the first when Reece Huey reached on an error and took second on Huffman’s single to center. Huey would get to third on a one-out wild pitch and would score on Stefan Berlett’s sacrifice fly.
Fort Madison would add a couple more runs in the top of the 5th when Micheal Fuller scored on Owen Weisinger’s RBI single and Huey’s fielder’s choice. Eric Cornelis would add an insurance run in the top of the 6th.
In the nightcap, Gavin Peitz hit a 2-run double in the top of the 8th inning to score Case Blind and Cornelis for the game winners in a 7-5 affair. Micheal Fuller preserved the win with three straight Ks in the bottom half. Huffman had three hits, including a 3-RBI triple in the fifth inning.
Fort Madison is now 2-0 in the Southeast Conference and moves to .500 overall with a 4-4 mark. They dropped two games 11-1 and 17-1 to Davenport North on Friday, but knocked off Davenport Central at home Thursday 17-12.

Central Lee boys win last two games
BURLINGTON – The Hawks pounded out 10 hits and held Burlington Notre Dame to just five in a 7-5 win over the Nikes in Southeast Iowa Super Conference baseball Thursday at Notre Dame.
Blake Davis went four innings on the mound to get the win, fanning six and walking three. He gave up one run earned. Caedon Newton pitched 2 2/3 in relief, allowing three hits and a run on strikeouts.  Kellen Weber pitched 1/3 to wrap up the win.
Weber also went 3-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Davis also accounted for three hits and two runs and Newton scored twice.
On Monday, Central Lee routed Wapello and Weber again was the big bat, driving in five runs, including a grand slam in the first inning. Ward Fraise, Weber, and Brett Cook combined on the mound, allowing just three hits while fanning six and walking eight. Fraise, Weber, and Carter Ellingboe all had multi-hit games in the win over the Indians.
The Hawks improve to 4-1 on the year and are 2-0 tied with Mediapolis atop the SEISC South division. They host Burlington Tuesday night and travel to Mediapolis on Thursday.

Central Lee girls rally to down Wapello
WAPELLO – The Central Lee Lady Hawks rallied for two runs in the top of the 7th inning and then Elaina Barlow worked two ground outs and a pop out at home to preserve the 2-1 win over Wapello on the road.
Taylor Kratzer singled with two outs in the top of the 7th to score Macy Butler, courtesy running for Barlow. Carly Broadwell scored during the at-bat on a wild pitch, giving Kratzer the game-winning RBI.
The Hawks went 1-1 at a weekend tourney at Centerville, downing Moravia 13-0 and then falling to Carlisle 4-11. Olivia Day went 3-3 in the win over Moravia. Kenna Sandoval was 2-2 with a home run and two runs scored. Aubree Bunnell and Rayleigh Burden each had multi hit games. Burden got the win in the 4-inning affair, striking out three and walking two while not allowing a hit.
Nora Kelley took the loss in the  game with Carlisle going three innings, giving up six runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking one. Butler came on in relief and allowed five runs on four hits.
The Hawks are 4-4 on the year and 2-0 in the SEI Super Conference South. They travel to Columbus Junction Tuesday and then go to Mediapolis for a South Division clash. The Bullettes are 2-1 in conference play and 4-3 overall. The Hawks host West Burlington on Friday night in a 7 p.m. game.

Lady Hounds sweep Keokuk
KEOKUK – Lucia Darnell struck out the final batter on the bottom of the 7th to help the Lady Hounds hold off the Keokuk girls in Southeast softball action.
The Hounds had surrendered a run in the bottom of the seventh in the opening game of a doubleheader and Keokuk had a girl on third before Darnell racked up the final strikeout.
Darnell also had two hits and scored two runs in the win. Jordyn Marshall had four hits and two RBIs in the win. Kylie Lumino was 3-5, including a double and an RBI. Emma Snaadt went 2-5 with three RBIs, including a two-run single in a four-run third.
A four-run first inning helped the Lady Hounds to win in the nightcap. Fort Madison racked up 10 hits. Nillie Menke, Darnell, Marshall, and Lumino all had two hits in the 5-3 win.
Snaadt picked up the win, going all seven innings and allowing three runs, one earned on four hits.
The wins were the first two of the year for the Hounds (2-4), but leave them 2-0 in Southeast play. They host Centerville Tuesday night and then travel to Fairfield on Thursday before going to Bloomfield to take on Davis County Friday.
