DANVILLE – The Central Lee Hawks boys' teams are gathering a little steam as the regular season enters the last several weeks of play.
The Hawks knocked off Danville in SEI Super Conference basketball action Friday night.
The win moves Central Lee to 5-5 in conference play and just a game under .500 at 6-7 overall. The Hawks currently stand at 5th in the conference behind West Burlington, Holy Trinity Catholic, Burlington Notre Dame, and Mediapolis.
Will Hayes led three Hawks in double figures with 16 points followed by Owen Swan with 15 and Brayden Wyrick with 10.
An 8-point lead heading into the second quarter was chewed up by a Danville 11-2 run to halftime giving the Bears at 20-19 lead at the break. Swan would lead the Hawks back out of the locker rooms with eight points in a third period that saw Central Lee regain a 31-26 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Hayes would lead the Hawks to the win with six points in the final period, keeping the 5-point lead through the rest of the game.
Wyrick is leading the Hawks with 137 points on the season. Swan is right behind at 127. Hayes is also over 100 points at 110. Wyrick has 70 rebounds and Hayes has 55. Swan had 31 assists and 22 steals, each team-highs.
The Hawks host New London on Tuesday and then host SEISC front-runner West Burlington on Friday night. The Falcons lost twice this weekend and will be looking to right the ship this coming week.
