Hawks go 1-2 at Saturday tourney
DONNELLSON - Central Lee went 1-2 at the Central Lee Hawk eight -team tournament Saturday in Donnellson.
The Hawks beat Keokuk: 21-15, 21-17 to open play and then fell to Burlington Notre Dame 14-21, 19-21 and Burlington:13-21, 12-21.
Brylee Cook had 12 kills, 20 assists, four aces, 11 digs to lead the Hawks at the net. Madison Frueh and nine kills and a dozen assists. Maggie Mullins had 10 digs and five kills. Macie Doty had eight digs.
The Hawks were coming off a three-set loss at Fort Madison to open the season. Chloe Haigh at seven kills on 16 attempts in the tight 22-25, 21-25, 25-27 loss to the Lady Hounds. Mullins had six kills. Cook had 15 assists and was 16-of-16 serving.
Fort Madison was led by Jordyn Grisham with seven kills at the net. She also had 10 assists. Kylie Lumino had 14 digs and Lyla Smith had five kills and seven digs for the Lady Hounds, who played in the Quincy Tournament over the weekend.
Central Lee, FM run at CR Prairie X-C
CEDAR RAPIDS – 8th grader Kaitlyn Marshall had the top local time at the Cedar Rapids Prairie Cross-Country Invitational Saturday in Cedar Rapids.
Marshall finished 16th for the Lady Hounds with a 21:23.27. Rounding out the scoring runners for Fort Madison who finished in 6th place in the Orange Division were: Jordyn Marshall 22:06.7 (20th), Eloise Lamb 22:34.48 (26th), Addison Pezley 23:57.04 (38th), and Ellie Hellman 25:25.54 (44th).
Central Lee finished with 132 for 5th place in the Orange Division paced by Aubree Bunnell with a 22:27.15 (23rd). The other four scoring runners were packed at 25th, 27-29th led by Macy Anderson’s 22:30.27 and followed by Addalie Daly 22:45.54, Adela Adkins 22:46.68, and Savannah Overton 22:51.64.
On the boys side, Fort Madison finished 5th with a 128, and Central Lee came in 7th with a 147.
The Hounds were led by Hunter Wiegand, who had a nice 2nd place finish at 17:07.25. The other scoring runners for Fort Madison in order were: Oliver Wiese 18?06.72 (17th), Jacob Walker 18:47.44 (30th), Colton Tripp 18:49.47 (31st), and Zach Hermes 19:49.31 (48th).
Central Lee was led by Drake Newton who finished 4th with a 17:12.04 and Austin Fogarty with a 18:38.28 (27th). The other three scoring runners for the Hawks were Caden Crozier at 19:04.85 (35th), Caedon Newton 19:05.39 (36th), and Orion St. Clair 19:38.39 (45th).
