Day's 2-run double lifts Central Lee over Bloodhounds.

FORT MADISON – Wyatt Day’s 2-run double to center in the top of the ninth inning broke up a 3-3 tie giving Central Lee a 5-3 win over Fort Madison in extra innings Saturday in Fort Madison.
Day drove in Blake Davis and Gage Van Ausdall with the winning runs. Davis had reached on a double of his own that bounced off the fence near the Shottenkirk board deep down the line in left field to lead off the ninth.
Van Ausdall worked a one-out walk before the Hounds got the second out on Carter Ellingboe’s pop out in foul territory. Day then took a 0-1 pitch to center between the Hounds' Owen Huffman and Owen Weisinger in right center plating the winning runs.
Caedon Newton would give up a one-out single just over the glove of a leaping Davis at first to bring the tying run to the plate, but Newton got back-to-back strikeouts to end the late affair.
Newton got the win going three innings of shutout baseball allowing just two hits while striking out three. Van Ausdall and freshman Kellen Weber each went three innings for the Hawks.
Ellingboe and Brett Cook combined for five hits in the win. Ellingboe and Day each had two RBI.
Reece Huey had a couple hits for the Bloodhounds and an RBI. Micheal Fuller, Nolan Lamb and Brae Hill had the other hits in the loss.
Fort Madison has lost three of its last four with the win coming 4-3 over Keokuk Thursday night. Washington downed Fort Madison 10-1 on Friday sending them to 3-6 in the Southeast Conference. The Bloodhounds are 8-13 overall and host Fairfield Monday night.
The Hawks on the other hand improve to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in Southeast Iowa Super Conference play.
The Hawks are coming off a big 7-1 win over Mediapolis Friday night at Central Lee High School. Davis went six innings allowing just four hits and one run to get the win over the Bulldogs who lead the Super Conference South at 8-2 (11-4).
Mason Sanders had four total bases including a double and two singles to lead the Hawks at the plate. He had two RBI in the win. Ellingboe also had a couple RBI.
The Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the third to wipe out a 1-0 Mediapolis lead, they added a run in the fifth and then three more in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
Central Lee travels to West Burlington on Tuesday, and then gets on the bus for a trip to New London on Thursday.
