Hounds 5th, Lady Hounds 7th at Demon Relays

WASHINGTON – Speed events were key to the Fort Madison boys' 5th place finish at the Demon Relays Thursday in Washington.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Adam Sobczak, Kiawante Smith, Gavin Callahan, and Henry Wiseman captured the title with a time of 1:03.09, almost a full two seconds ahead of the field. Cedar Rapids Prairie took second with a time of 1:04.84.
The Hounds finished with 48 points. Prairie ran away with the team title with 196 points, followed by Iowa City Liberty, Fairfield, and Washington.
The Lady Hounds finished seventh with 33 points behind Tipton, Washington, Mt. Pleasant, Liberty, Prairie, and Burlington.
Avery Rump led the Hounds with a 5:06.46 second-place finish in the 1500 meter run and a second-place in the 3000-meter run behind Washington’s Iris Dahl at 10:45.66. Addison Rump took 6th with a time of 11:49.77. The distance medley relay team of Emma Kern, Olivia Buckner, Mara Smith, and Avery Rump captured third in a time of 4:33.83, 2.9 seconds off the pace.
Brylie Lorence took 4th and 5th in the shotput and discus events with throws of 36’1” and 98’2”.
On the boys' side, Julian Dear wrapped a couple second-place finishes, one in the 100-meter dash at 11:58 and ran the second leg of the 4x200 with a 1:34.83 behind Prairie’s 1:31.55. Fort Madison’s 4x400 and 4x800 each earned a 3rd-place finish.
Caden Barnes was third in the shot with a heave of 45’8.25”.
