BURLINGTON – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds knocked off Burlington Notre Dame in boys' high school soccer action Tuesday night in Burlington.
Notre Dame opened the scoring with a goal at the 24:50 mark into the first half, but Fort Madison responded immediately, scoring 30 seconds later when Connor Horn found the net on assists by Jonah Santiago and Tanner Williams.
That would end the scoring in the first half. Then, 12 minutes into the second half, Jonah Tackett scored on assists from Horn and Hunter Wiegand. Clay Smith would score with 5:30 left in the match for a 3-1 lead. The Nikes would get within one on a goal with 2:15 left, but Fort Madison would hold the Nikes off the rest of the way for the win.
Keelynd Ross had 10 saves on the night against the two goals.
The Bloodhounds improve to 3-0-1 on the year and stand at 2-0 in Southeast Conference action with a home match against Burlington on Thursday evening.
Central Lee boys suffer first soccer loss
DONNELLSON – The Hawks were shutout Tuesday night by Fairfield 2-0 in a non-conference southeast Iowa boys' soccer match.
The teams battled to a 0-0 tie at the end of the first period with both defenses dictating play.
Fairfield would score on a penalty kick at the 25:19 mark of the second half and then get the final goal at 9:53.
Tristan Robins corralled nine saves for the Hawks in the loss. Thursday’s game at WACO has been postponed due to damage cause by storms Tuesday night. They travel to Mediapolis on April 21.
Lady Chiefs fall to Monmouth Tuesday
KEOKUK – The Keokuk Chiefs fell to Monmouth Roseville Tuesday night 1-0.
The loss moves Keokuk to 2-3 on the year and they travel to Fairfield Thursday night for a Southeast Conference game. Relina Wong had five saves. The Chiefs had four shots, two on goal, that both found the net.
