MT. PLEASANT - The Fort Madison Bloodhounds stayed tied with Keokuk atop the Southeast Conference with a 62-44 win on the road in Mt. Pleasant Friday night.
The Hounds played most of the game without leading scorer Nolan Guzman who got caught over a Panther defender on a breakway and came down hard on the floor, suffering a laceration. After medical treatment, he returned to the game, but Fort Madison had things well in hand.
The Hounds improve to 5-2 in conference play and 6-5 overall with the win. They host Clark County on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup before tangling with Burlington at home on Friday and Burlington Notre Dame on Saturday.
Fort Madison had things under control, quickly racing to a 17-11 first quarter lead. Dayton Lamar heated up in the second quarter scoring eight points with inside buckets. Lucas Helmick came off the bench to fill in for Guzman and added a 3-ball in the fourth quarter to finish with three points.
The Hounds got an otherwise balanced scoring attack while holding the Panthers to just 44 points, defensively.
Lamar had 14 to lead Fort Madison, Kenden Bowie and Julian Dear both finished with 13 points. Ten of Dear’s points came in the second half.
