FORT MADISON – The Bloodhounds landed eight players on the Southeast Conference All-Conference slate released Friday.
The list was withheld until all teams had completed their season and, with the girls falling 7-0 to North Scott on Thursday, the teams were released.
Seniors Hadley Wolfe and Halle Menke were named 1st-team All-Conference for the Lady Hounds, joining juniors Reilynn Turnbull and Kara Lake. Emma Snaadt and Molly Schulte both received honorable mention.
Wolfe led the conference in goals with 44, a full 20 ahead of Washington’s Angeline Anderson. She was also tops in the conference in points 102, shots 111, and shots on goal 78.
Menke was tops in the conference in assists with 21. Wolfe and Turnbull tied at second with 14.
Addie Link, Hannah Kirchner, Menke, Wolfe, Iris Arevalo, Lanie Fincher, Charley Huebner, Addisyn Lumsden, Schulte, Snaadt, Turnbull, Izzy Behne, Lake, Ellie Hellman, and Adalyn Kruse all earned Academic All-Conference.
On the boys' side, senior Layne Rung, juniors Jonah Santiago and Connor Horn, and freshman Jack Ragar were all named All-Conference. Freshman Jonah Tackett and junior Hunter Weigand received honorable mention.
Tackett and Horn were 3rd and 4th in scoring, respectively, with 16 and 15 goals behind Mt. Pleasant’s Dylan White. Ragar tied for second in assists with 11. Rung was prolific on the defensive side of the ball.
Hawks go 3-4 last week
DONNELLSON – The Central Lee baseball team won 3 of 4 games last week with wins over Burlington, West Burlington, and Wapello. The sole loss came in a 5-9 loss to Mediapolis Thursday.
The Hawks beat West Burlington at home Friday 11-8 behind three-hit performances from Blake Davis and Brett Cook. Davis scored three runs and drove in two more in the win. Kellen Weber and Caedon Newton also had two RBIs. Carter Ellingboe got the win going 2 1/3, allowing one run on one hit and fanning three. Weber went 4 1/3 giving up six runs on six hits and struck out seven.
In the win over Burlington Tuesday, Gage Van Ausdall, Davis and Cook all had multi-hit games. A five-run fourth inning proved to be just enough to get the win. A throwing error on a Wyatt Day grounder allowed two runs to come in. Cook's RBI single with two outs proved to be the game winner.
On Thursday, the Hawks gave up four runs in the first inning to the Bulldogs and another run in the second, but rallied to trail 5-4 after three innings. But a four-run sixth by the hosts put things out of reach. Davis took the loss going two innings and giving up up five runs, three earned. Max Griffin got the win for the Bulldogs.
Central Lee girls win 2 of 3
DONNELLSON – A 14-7 loss at the hands of West Burlington spoiled an otherwise solid week for the Central Lee girls.
The Lady Hawks knocked off Wapello 2-1 on Monday and then rolled Columbus Junction 19-2 on Tuesday, Nine lady Hawks had hits in the win, including two each from Charli Day, Taylor Kratzer, Rayleigh Burden, and Carly Broadwell. Burden and Kratzer had four RBIs each in the win.
Kenna Sandoval homered, her second of the year, as part of a three-run seventh inning, but the Falcons already had a 10-run lead and had put the game out of reach. Burden took the loss on the mound going 5 2/3, allowing 12 runs, seven earned on 12 hits, while walking six, and fanning one.
The Lady Hawks stand at 5-5 overall on the season and 2-1 in SEI Super Conference South play. They travel to New London on Tuesday and then host a makeup game with Danville on Wednesday, both with 7 p.m. start times.
Lady Hounds riding three-game win streak
FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison Lady Hounds won three games at Saturday’s Holy Trinity Catholic tournament at Baxter Sports Complex in Fort Madison.
The Bloodhounds downed New-London/W-MU 10-0, knocked off West Burlington 9-5, and Mt. Pleasant 8-0. The first game went just four innings as Fort Madison put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth to invoke the 10-run rule. Ava Fuget’s single to right scored the final two runs of the game. Emma Snaadt got the win, allowing just two hits in the shutout.
A seven-run fourth inning was enough for the win over the Falcons. NilieMenke led the Hounds at the plate going 2-4 with two runs scored. Jordyn Marshall had two RBIs.
Lucia Darnell threw the shutout in the third game of the day going five innings and allowing just three hits while striking out 12. Fuget led the offense going 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Zoey Counts also had two hits for Fort Madison.
The Bloodhounds improve to 4-6 overall and stand at 2-1 in Southeast Conference play. They host Burlington in a doubleheader Monday at Baxter Sports Complex.
Fort Madison knocks off Van Buren
MUSCATINE – The Bloodhounds finished a six-game week on a high note as they downed Van Buren County 9-2 Saturday on the road.
The win snapped a 3-game skid that included a sweep at the hands of Muscatine 11-2, 10-0, in Muscatine, and a 7-2 loss to Fairfield on Tuesday.
Fort Madison put up five runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Case Fraise, Nolan Lamb, and Reece Huey all had multi-hit games for the Hounds. Micheal Fuller scored two runs and drove in another in the win. Jay Ellison had 3 RBIs including an RBI single in the top of the fourth to break a 1-1 tie.
Fuller got the win, going two innings and allowing one run earned on no hits, while fanning two, and walking three. Stefan Berlett went four innings and gave up just one hit while striking out two.
The Hounds improve to 4-7 overall and stand at 2-1 in Southeast play. They host Burlington Monday night in a doubleheader with a 5:30 start at FMHS. They host Fairfield on Thursday in a single contest starting at 7 p.m. and then travel to Indian Hills Saturday for a tournament.
Holy Trinity goes 2-3 at Crusader tourney
FORT MADISON – The Holy Trinity softball team won two games in the HTC tournament Saturday at Baxter Sports Complex.
The girls won 5-1 over Van Buren County and then shut out West Burlington 11-0 in their final game Saturday. The loss came at the hands of Mt. Pleasant 14-3.
In the Van Buren game, Cadyn Holmes had three singles with two RBIs and a couple runs scored in the win. Sydney Jarvis got the win, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits, while fanning six, and walking three. Jarvis also got the win over the Falcons in her fifth of the year in seven decisions. She went 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs. Holmes had another 3-hit outing at the plate leading the Crusaders again. Alivia Holmes went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Kenna Gittings and Kara Lake also had multi-hit games. Ellie Hellman had a 2-run single in the top of the first and drove in another run for 3 RBIs in the win.
The Crusaders are 8-3 overall and 3-2 in SEI Super Conference South play. They host Pekin Monday at South Park and then travel to Wapello Tuesday both 7 p.m. starts.
