BLOOMFIELD – The Fort Madison Lady Hounds had three players in double figures Monday night in a 48-28 win over Davis County.
The move evens the Hounds' record at 1-1 after a seasoning opening overtime loss to Class 3A No. 15 Ottumwa 49-46.
On Monday, junior Hadley Wolfe scored 13 points shooting just under 50% from the field and 2-4 from the freethrow line. Sophomore Reilynn Turnbull had 10 points on 5 of 7 shooting, while junior Halle Menke had 10 points in her first outing of the season.
Dayonna Davis led the Bloodhounds in rebounds against the Mustangs with eight, five of which were on the offensive side of the court. Wolfe also had eight rebounds, seven steals, and five assists. Turnbull had five boards and six steals in the win.
Davis County held a slim 8-7 lead after the first quarter, but the Hounds then regrouped and held the Mustangs to just six second-quarter points while putting up 14 of their own for a 21-14 halftime advantage.
That defensive pressure held up in the second half holding Davis County to just 14 second-half points, stretching the lead to up to 20 points, including the final score.
On Nov. 25, Davis led Fort Madison with 16 points, 11 boards and four assists in the 3-point loss to Ottumwa. Wolfe was also in double figures with 16 points, five rebounds, and six steals.
The Lady Hounds trailed through three quarters but put up a dozen in the fourth to knot the score at 37 at the end of regulation. Davis County then got hot after being outscored 32-26 since the first quarter and outscored Fort Madison 9-6 in the OT session to secure the win.
Fort Madison stands at 1-1 overall and opens Southeast Conference action Friday night in Fairfield.
