Hounds sweep double dual at Washington

WASHINGTON, Ia – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds came out of the Christmas break on the right note headed into the final six weeks of the wrestling season.
The Hounds knocked off Southeast Conference rival Washington in a tight match Thursday in Washington 40-35 in a double dual. They also downed WACO 59-15.
In the matchup with the Demons, Logan Pennock got things going for the Hounds with a pin over Washington’s Jude Carter with just three seconds left in the first period. Then Cade Goodrich got a fall over Bryer Billingsly halfway through the second period for a 12-6 lead – a lead Fort Madison would never relinquish.
Fort Madison’s Nolan Riddle, who ranked in the top 10 at 157 lbs., scored a 10-0 major decision over the Demons’ Chase Greiner. Riddle has been rolling through the season after qualifying for state in 2023.
Joe Hartman (165) and Ike Thacher (190) also recorded wins for Fort Madison.
Cory Arnett went 2-0 on the day with two falls. His first pin over Washington’s Rudy Wolfe was in just :49 and his win over John Stauffer of WACO came by pin at 1:28.
Thacher suffered a rare defeat wrestling at 190 lbs. when WACO’s Louden Huisenga got a late 6-4 decision over the Bloodhound. Thacher is back on the mat after sitting most of the first half of the season with an arm injury.
Riddle got another win in the WACO match scoring a fall at 1:04. Goodrich also went 2-0 on the day with a win over Lane Bachman by fall at 1:44.
Rainer Johnson (150), Hartman (165), Aaron Warner (215), and Cole Quittem (106), all had wins in the Hounds' win over WACO.
