FAIRFIELD – Fort Madison won both the boys' and the girls' meets Thursday at Fairfield Invitational.
Riley Tripp led the Hound boys to first place in team scoring with a second-place finish in the 5K at 17:21.18. Hunter Wiegand had his best run of the year trailing Tripp by just three seconds at 17:24.62 for 3rd place overall and 2nd in team scoring in 3A/4A. Tripp had the top time in the 3A/4A event.
Fort Madison had 30 points followed by Washington’s 59 and Burlington’s 100. Oskaloosa and Fairfield wrapped up the top five in the boys' 3A/4A meet.
Fort Madison’s girls had 33 points, followed by Washington’s 63, Osky’s 92. Keokuk had 101 for 4th place and Ottumwa wrapped up the top five with 111 points.
Mt. Pleasant’s Avery Fedler took the girls' meet at 19:11.56, 19 seconds in front of Ft. Madison’s Avery Rump who had a 19:30.85. Addison Rump took 3rd overall with a 20:44.12. Other scoring runners for the Lady Hounds included Mara Smith 21:49.01 (7th in team scoring and 8th overall), Jordyn Marshall 22:11.93 (9th; 11th), and McKayla Schinstock with a 22:46.68 (12th;18th).
Other runners for the Lady Hounds included Ellie Hellman finishing 14th in 3A/4A with a 22:55.43 (20th overall). Ellie Huebner ran a 23:57.74 (20th;29th), Eloise Lamb 24:58.84 (43rd), and Abbie Ralph (62nd).
For the Bloodhound boys, Mason McLey ran a 17:58.12 for 5th in the 3A/4A event and 7th overall. Nolan Guzman had an 18:24.91 (9th;11th). Jacob Walker wrapped up the scoring runners for Fort Madison with a 19:12.60 (13th: 19th).
The other finishing runners for the Hounds included Oliver Wiese 19:22.57, Loan McClure 19:22.98. Walker, Wiese and McClure finished 13th, 14th, and 15th in 3A/4A.
Colton Tripp finished at 20:25.89 (40th), Zachary Hermes, 20:40.50 (44th), Elie Brunault 21:17.84 (55th); Jake Haessig 22:13.82 (79th), Kian Koering 25:03.51 (121st); Jackson Haessig 27:03.53 (138th); and Vance Schuessler 29:46.45 (147th).
Brayden Williams led Holy Trinity in the 1A/2A event with a 25:21.56 (125th). Nick Menke ran a 26:20.65 (132nd); Chase Menke 26:36.09 (133rd), and Alex Scheetz 26:44.39 (134th). The Crusaders had just four runners so no team scoring took place.
The Keokuk boys finished eighth led by Sam Higbie’s 8th place finish at 17:51.64 (6th in 3A/4A), Kyan Campbell ran a 20:48.01 (28th;45th), Caleb Mondon 21:04:08 (32nd;52nd), Reece Manges, 22:53.01 (52nd; 89th), Jeffree Arthur 24:23.74 (54th;114th), and Brandon Johnson 24:38.55 (55th; 117th).
For the Keokuk girls, who took 4th place in the 3A/4A run with 101 points, Baylee Billings ran a 23:02 for 15th overall. Violet Shead ran a 23:07 (16th), while Olivia Cochenour ran a 23:15 (17th), Kali Ames was just behind at 23:42 (19th) and Jacie Olsen wrapped up scoring runners with a 23:42. (34th). Maribelle Zirkel ran at 35:45 (38th).
