DES MOINES -  A rare regular season game at Wells-Fargo gave the Fort Madison Bloodhounds a glimpse of what it would be like to play at the state tournament.
But if a return trip were in the cards, the Hounds would like a little better outcome. Fort Madison fell 61-50 to Mt. Vernon in a non-conference game in Des Moines Saturday afternoon.
Fort Madison had three players in double figures but got behind by 15 in the first quarter and couldn’t recover.
Julian Dear had 15 to lead Fort Madison. Nolan Guzman chipped in with 13 and Dayton Lamar followed up his 30-point performance in Friday night’s double overtime win over Washington, with 11 points.
Fort Madison battled back to a 10-point deficit at the half sparked by Dear’s nine points. Fort Madison was chilly from long range completing just one three-pointer on the night, by Dear in the second period
Mt. Vernon’s Kellen Haverback led all scorers with 21.
The Hounds travel to Davis County on Monday and then travel to Keokuk Thursday night with the Southeast Conference title on the line. The travel to Muscatine on Saturday night and then wrap up the regular season with Senior Night Monday at home.
