FORT MADISON - Holy Trinity Catholic Schools Educational Foundation is announcing a new endowed scholarship.
The Holy Trinity Catholic Schools Educational Field Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Holy Trinity senior who plans to pursue a degree in education. Its eligibility will be determined based upon application criteria such as need, academic ability, and future success in the field. The $100,000 endowed scholarship was donated by a benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous. The scholarship recipient(s) will receive a one-time payment distributed from the fund, based on the interest rate environment and the number of recipients chosen. This year's award is expected to be roughly $4,500.
"This is an opportunity for a student who wishes to serve in an educational-related profession," said Thomas Gendron, Director of Development of the Holy Trinity Catholic Schools Educational Foundation.
"We offer scholarship opportunities to several fields, but this is the first time, to my knowledge, that we will help students who wish to go into the real world doing one of God's chosen professions - teaching."
"Tom did a phenomenal job educating our benefactor on options and guiding the benefactor through the process of setting up an endowment, which was done through the North Lee County Community Foundation," said Justin Pieper, President of the Holy Trinity Catholic Schools Foundation.
Gendron said they started working on the scholarship in the spring and the motivation from the donor was from a service standpoint. He said the donor will remain anonymous until passing and then the foundation will likely be renamed.
The Holy Trinity Catholic Schools Educational Field Scholarship fits perfectly into the Mission of the Foundation. Providing financial support to students is the pillar upon which the Foundation is built and is the backbone of its fundraising.
