MIDDLETOWN - The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant announced today that it will resume operations on March 30, following a temporary and precautionary pause that began on March 12. American Ordnance LLC employees are returning to the site to resume work.
The pause was initiated by the U.S. Government to allow a team of experts to conduct a thorough safety review and ensure safe storage of lead azide.
Employees will return to production lines following the completion of comprehensive safety reviews and the implementation of all required safety protocols.
“The safety of our personnel, the surrounding community, and the environment has been our absolute top priority throughout this process,” said Lt. Col. Daniel V. Nosse, commander of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. “We are grateful for the patience of our skilled workforce and the community. We are confident in our safety protocols and are ready to get back to work.”
The community will be informed when the disposal method for lead azide is planned.
