Welcome to Thanksgiving week in Fort Madison! Around here, the holiday isn’t just about turkey and pie (though we approach both with great enthusiasm). It’s about gathering together, slowing down a little, and enjoying the small-town moments that make this place feel so welcoming.
The week begins with open houses at local businesses, including Hinterland Dairy, where you can stock up on cheeses, appetizers, dips, and desserts for Your holiday gatherings. It’s the perfect way to impress your family without actually turning on the oven.
Appleberry Orchard opens for Christmas this Tuesday, and on Saturday they’re hosting their “Taste of Appleberry” event, featuring samples of soups, dips, wine, hard cider, and other delicious things that pair nicely with both holiday cheer and holiday stress. Harvestville Farm is also open for Christmas, offering fresh trees, wreaths, roping, boughs, home décor, gifts, candies, jams, and festive treats to help you deck every hall you’ve got.
And speaking of Saturday—don’t miss Mistletoe on Main from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as we celebrate Small Business Saturday. Many downtown shops will join in the fun, making it a great day to stroll, shop local, and maybe get a head start on your list.
On Wednesday night, welcome visiting family with live music around town, then try not to stay out too late—the YMCA’s 3rd Annual Turkey Trot starts bright and early at 7:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning.
Finally, bundle up Friday night for the Lighted Parade at 6:30 p.m. along Avenue G, ending in Central Park where the floats will shine all season long.
Come out and enjoy everything Fort Madison has to offer this week!
