Jarvis, Sandoval get all-state nods

Holy Trinity’s Sydney Jarvis and Central Lee’s Kenna Sandoval were named to IGCA state teams.

LEE COUNTY - Holy Trinity’s Sydney Jarvis and Central Lee’s Kenna Sandoval were named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association softball all-state teams on Monday.
Jarvis, Sandoval, Holy Trinity’s Alivia Holmes, and Fort Madison’s Lucia Darnell were named to the all-district teams.
Jarvis, a junior, was named to the Class 1A second team. Sandoval, a senior, was named to the Class 3A second team.
Jarvis was 19-5 with a 1.83 earned run average and a 1.01 WHIP. She struck out 133 and walked 36 in 138 innings. Jarvis also hit .573, sixth best in Class 1A and 14th best in the state among all classes, with three home runs and a team-high 37 runs batted in. She finished with a 1.583 OPS.
Sandoval, the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division player of the year, hit .510 this season with a 1.563 OPS. She hit nine home runs and drove in 38 runs.

Darnell was 9-8 as a pitcher, finishing with a 1.67 ERA with 135 strikeouts in 113 ⅓ innings. She batted .314 and drove in 10 runs.
Among area high schools, Burlington’s Kylie Hill was a Class 4A first-team all-state selection, while teammates Ava Fawcett and Ava Brandenburg were second-team picks. Mediapolis’ Payton Harris was named to the Class 3A second team.
Hill, Brandenburg, Fawcett and Mount Pleasant’s Abigail Shelangoski were named to the 4A all-district team, and Burlington’s Larry Heath was named the district’s coach of the year.
Harris and Fairfield’s Leah Helmick were named to the 3A all-district team.
