Keokuk shuts down Wyrick in win over Hawks

Hoard goes for 25 for Chiefs

KEOKUK – Sophomore Owen Swan led Central Lee with 11 points in the Hawks loss to Keokuk Saturday on the road.
The Chiefs (10-4, 5-2 Southeast Conference) took control from the tip and found a way to hold the Hawks’ top scorer Brayden Wyrick to just nine points on the night in securing the win.
Keokuk rolled to a 17-3 first quarter lead behind Brenton Hoard’s 11 points. Hoard finished with a game-high 25 points including six 3-pointers. He also had seven rebounds and four steals in the win for the Chiefs.
Wyrick had eight rebounds and a blocked shot, while Will Hayes had four rebounds and seven points in the loss.
Jaxon Clark had 22 points for Keokuk, while Diego Garcia chipped in with nine points and five assists.
Central Lee is still playing above .500 on the year with a 6-5 mark in the Southeast Iowa Superconference and an 8-7 overall mark.
They travel to Fort Madison to take on Holy Trinity Catholic on Tuesday night at Shottenkirk Gymnasium.
