On February 25th, 2025 at approximately 11:35pm, an individual came to the police department to speak with an officer. Upon leaving the police department, the subject went to the back lot of the police department and gained access to a fully marked patrol car.
The subject was able to drive the unit and went north towards Fort Madison on Hwy. 61. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Madison Police Department were notified immediately.
At approximately 11:47 p.m, a Fort Madison police officer attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. This pursuit continued north on Hwy. 61 before turning around and driving back to Keokuk. The driver entered the city limits and the pursuit would eventually end near the Oakland Cemetery after the vehicle was disabled.
Megan Jo Plowman, 32 of Keokuk, was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Theft, a class C felony, Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree, an aggravated misdemeanor, Driving While Barred, an aggravated misdemeanor, Interference With Official Acts Causing Injury, a serious misdemeanor, Assault On A Peace Officer, a serious misdemeanor, and two counts of 5th Degree Criminal Mischief, a simple misdemeanor.
Plowman was taken to a medical facility to be treated for minor injuries prior to being held in the Lee County Correctional Center.
A law enforcement officer received minor injuries during this event. Those injuries did not require treatment at a medical facility.
