Cary M. “Meatball” Smith, 73, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 5:02 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Montrose Health Center. He was born on February 22, 1952 in Fort Madison, IA to E.J. & Betty Hayes Smith. He worked construction most of his life and later owned and operated Meatball’s Bar & Grill. He married Sandra M. Redden on May 28, 2005 in Farmington, IA. She preceded him in death on September 13, 2023. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and enjoyed hunting & fishing.
Cary is survived by: 1-daughter: Brenda (Kevin) Miller of Wellman, IA; 4-grandchildren: Brody, Collin, Kenzington & Kale and his mother: Betty Smith of Keokuk, IA. He was preceded in death by his father and 1-brother, Jack Smith.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Preston Smith officiating. Burial will be held at Soldiers’ Circle in Oakland Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory.
