Jean A. Holmes, 86, Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 9:08 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at the Montrose Health Center. She was born on September 25, 1939 in Ida Grove, IA to Edmund & Dorothy Heldt Baird. She married Thomas Holmes on April 29, 1958 in Ida Grove, IA. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2010. She was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed watching reality TV shows and spending time with her family. She was an avid collector of many things and was a very independent and feisty woman.
Jean is survived by: 2-daughters: Bonnie Boecker of New London, IA & Lori (Ken) Barlow of Fort Madison, IA; 3-sons: Steven Holmes of Denver, CO, Peter Holmes of St. Cloud, MN & Jeffery (Stefanie) Holmes of Castle Rock, CO; 23-grandchildren & 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, 2-sons: Terry & Thomas Holmes, Jr, & 1-brother.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Bethany Baptist Church, 2340 McKinley Avenue, Keokuk, IA 52632 with her son in law, Pastor Ken Barlow officiating. The family would like to thank Every Step Hospice Nurses & Staff and the Montrose Health Center Nurses & Staff for the excellent care they gave to Jean in her final years.
