Loretta “Boots” J. Hayes, 88, of Montrose, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 12:10 PM at the Montrose Health Care Center.
She was born on February 17, 1937 in Ft. Madison to Carl and Edna Allen Hayes, Sr.  Loretta worked a full career at Sheaffer Pen Company and retired after forty three years of service.  She was a member of the Montrose Church of the Nazarene where she was very active in all aspects, especially vacation bible school.  She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, traveling and loved reading mystery books. Most of all she loved her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s events.
Survivors include her son, Joe (Danette) Hayes of Montrose; five grandchildren, Livie, Amber, Eva, Gavin and Will; three brothers, Tom (Barb) Hayes of Donnellson, John (Linda) Hayes of Montrose and Carl Hayes Jr. of Donnellson; two sisters, Betty Smith and Donna Myers of Keokuk; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Orval, Edward and William “Bill” Hayes and one sister, Leatha Crom.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 11 AM at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor John Hayes officiating.  The family will meet with friends from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM.  Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
