Roger A. Steffensmeier, 82, of Ft. Madison, IA, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 10:50 PM at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Hospice House in West Burlington.
He was born on August 19, 1943 in Ft. Madison to Clarence and Margaret Schumaker Steffensmeier. On June 6, 1964 he married Helen Brent in Ft. Madison. Roger worked at Sheaffer Pen Co for thirty-seven and a half years and was a supervisor for seventeen of those years. He then worked for the Ft. Madison Community School District for five years before finally retiring in 2005. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Sacred Heart Church. Roger loved doing yardwork and raised beautiful flowers. He also enjoyed feeding songbirds, especially cardinals. Roger was an avid LA Rams fan and attended numerous games with his family as well as an avid NASCAR fan and attended several races.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Steffensmeier of Ft. Madison; one son, Roy Steffensmeier of Ft. Madison; one daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Williamson of Marion, IA; two grandchildren, Rayce Steffensmeier and Keatynn Williamson; one brother, Marvin (Emmajean) Steffensmeier of Fredericksburg, VA; sisters in law, Gail Steffensmeier of Ft. Madison, Kathy Klein of Burlington, Ruby Dravis of Burlington, Diana Williams of Ft. Worth, TX, Phyllis Robb of Mt. Vernon, IL and Janet Morris of St. Charles, MO; brother in law, Robert Brent of West Burlington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carroll Steffensmeier; mother in law, Ruby Irene Brant; sisters in law, Vivian and Carol and brother-in-law, Ralph.
The funeral service for Roger will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 at 1:30 PM at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Gary Beckman officiating. The family will meet with friends from 12:30 until the time of the service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
