Verla “Sue” Cassady, 96, of West Point, IA, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 8:28 AM at her home.
She was born on September 5, 1929 at her parent’s home in West Point, the daughter of Clarence and Frances Donnolly Wilson. On July 13, 1973 she married John “Jack” Cassady in Long Beach, CA and he passed away on August 15, 2011. Sue was a graduate of Denmark Academy in 1946. In her younger years she worked at Sheaffer Pen and then at Clements Funeral Home for fifteen years as a secretary. After moving to California she received her teaching degree from Pomrey college and taught in California for several years before returning to Iowa. Her and Jack enjoyed going to yard sales, her flower bed and she loved cats.
Survivors include one son, Koyne (Rachel) Cassady of Midlothian, TX; two grandsons, Spencer (Olivia) Cassady of Dallas, TX and Jackson Cassady of Midlothian, TX; two step daughters, Betty Ann Beutificato fo San Diego and Mary Jane Tokosch of Phoenix; five step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Virgil, Forest and Clifford and one sister, Ila Newton.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 11 AM at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Chad Savage officiating. The family will meet with friends from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM. Burial will be in Denmark Cemetery.
