John W. Barnes, 87, of Ft. Madison, IA, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 3:00 AM at Birkwood Village in Ft. Madison.
He was born on June 21, 1937 in Medill, MO to Russell and Esther Newberry Barnes. On September 18, 1960 John married Marlene Homes in Kahoka, MO. John worked for BNSF Railroad and retired from the signal department in 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Barnes of Ft. Madison; two children, Angela Lea of West Burlington and David Barnes of Burlington; one grandson, Jack Matese; one brother, Thomas Barnes of Wayland, MO and one sister, Mary Harper of Kahoka, MO; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Russell, Ronald and Paul and one sister, Shirley.
Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be held at a later date in La Plata, MO. Online condolences may be left at www.kinglynk.com.
