Alan Joseph Bohnenkamp, 71, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away unexpectedly at 11:43 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026 at his home. He was born on February 19, 1954 in Fort Madison, IA to Vincent H. & Avis Morris Bohnenkamp. He married Katherine J. Schneider on April 13, 1974 in Fort Madison, IA. He retired from the J.I. Case Company in Burlington with over 30 years of service. He spent his retirement years with his family, traveling & participating in all RAGBRAI Events since 2008. He enjoyed spending winters in Cozumel, Mexico, scuba diving and training for RAGBRAI. He also enjoyed hunting deer with his brothers and fishing with his grandchildren.
Alan is survived by: his wife: Kathy Bohnenkamp of Fort Madison, IA; 2-daughters: Carol (Troy) Ross of West Point, IA & Kimberly (Brian) Ellis of Fort Madison, IA; 1-son: Lucas (Becky) Bohnenkamp of Cedar Rapids, IA; 7-grandchildren: Nathaniel (fiancée Emily Hofer) Harter, Emily Ross, Megan Shacklett, Ryan Shacklett, Elgin Bohnenkamp, Joseph Bohnenkamp & Kat Bohnenkamp; 1-sister: Judy (John) Hawes of Cedar Rapids, IA; 3-brothers: David Bohnenkamp of Argyle, IA, Eric (Donna) Bohnenkamp of Fort Madison, IA & Brian (Jackie) Bohnenkamp of Fort Madison, IA; 4-brothers in law: Jerry Persky of Bettendorf, IA, Bill (Margaret) Schneider of Nauvoo, IL, John (Theresa) Schneider of Denmark, IA & David (Jonna) Schneider of Fort Madison, IA and numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 3-sisters: Donna Persky, Laura Traman & Linda Bohnenkamp, 1-sister-in-law: Mary Bohnenkamp, 2-nieces: Michelle Persky & Maria Hellweg & 1-nephew: David Persky.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Chad Savage officiating. Burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery.
