Carroll L. Steffensmeier, 87, of Ft. Madison, IA, passed away at 6:00 PM on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at his home.
He was born on April 4, 1937 in Ft. Madison to Clarence and Margaret Schumaker Steffensmeier. On May 3, 1958 he married Gail O’Neil in Ft. Madison. Carroll was a shipping and receiving manager at Freuhauf and retired in 1995 after twenty-nine years of service due to health reasons. He was a 1955 graduate of Catholic Central High School and a member of Holy Family Parish. Carroll was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and the Detroit Lions and Pistons.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Steffensmeier of Ft. Madison; three children, Robert Steffensmeier of Allen, TX, Glen (Meridee) Steffensmeier of Mesa, AZ and Kimberly (Steve) Becker of Aurora, IL; three granddaughters, Nicole Hernandez, Megan Steffensmeier and Lauren Steffensmeier; two grandsons, Scott and Damon Becker; two great grandchildren, Ethan and Emily Hernandez; two brothers, Marvin (Emma Jean) Steffensmeier of Fredericksburg, VA and Roger (Helen) Steffensmeier of Ft. Madison; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael in infancy; his mother and father-in-law, Aaron and Pauline O’Neil; brothers in law, Aaron and Floyd O’Neil and a sister-in-law, Linda Toth.
The family will meet with friends from 10-11 AM on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Reverend Gary Beckman officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
