Dovie M. Britton, 93, of Wever, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 8:53 PM at Oakview Nursing Home in Burlington.
She was born on June 26, 1931 in Alemena, KS to William and Mabel Jarvis Reyer. On June 26, 1949 Dovie married Frank H. Britton in Ft. Madison and he passed away on November 10, 2011. Dovie worked in Administration at the Iowa State Penitentiary and retired in 1993 after thirty plus years of service. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and the King’s Daughters. Dovie spent countless hours volunteering for various community organizations, especially the Tri-State rodeo where she and Frank volunteered for over sixty years.
Survivors include two sons, William Britton of Ft. Madison and Jack Britton of Clarion, IA; one daughter, Paula VanAken of Mountain Grove, MO; three grandchildren, Layne Britton, Kristina Van Aken and Tyler Van Aken; one sister, Lola Otte of West Point; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Beulah Slagowski and Opal Mosier and one brother, Bill Reyer.
The family will meet with friends on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory from 4-6 PM. Her body will be cremated following the visitation. A Memorial service will be held in mid April at First Baptist Church and burial will be in Soldiers’ Circle, Oakland Cemetery.
