Georgina C. Hersey, age 77, of Ft. Madison, IA, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 12:40 AM at the Montrose Health Care Center.
Born on January 13, 1947 in Ft. Madison, the daughter of Raymond and Freda Richens Courtney. She was a 1965 graduate of Ft. Madison High School and was a lifeguard at Ft. Madison Community Swimming Pool in her younger years. Georgina was an RN in the pediatric cancer unit at East Medical Center in Bangor, ME and retired after 30 years of service. She lived her life for her patients and the families of the children she took care of. To her, nursing was not a career, it was her love and life. She enjoyed traveling, her pets, going on walks and doing crossword puzzles. Georgina also loved horseback riding and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sister, Brenda (Steve) Long of Robards, KY and two nieces, Stephanie Lalaga of Burlington, IA and April Davis of Agua Dulce, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents and a half brother, Jim Younker of St. Charles, MO.
