Joan Ruth Northup, 73 of Ft. Madison, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 1:26 PM at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
She was born on December 15, 1951 in Ft. Madison to Thomas and Betty Muntz Vonderhaar.  On October 21, 1972 she married Steven Northup in Ft. Madison at Ss. Mary’s Church.  Joan was a homemaker and also worked for Fred Hoenig during tax season for twenty one years. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and Altar & Rosary Society.  She enjoyed doing ceramics, puzzles, gardening, cooking and baking.  Joan also loved to go shopping, travel and play slot machines.  Most of all, she loved her time spent with her family.  She was a friend to everyone and would help anyone that needed it.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Northup of Ft. Madison; three daughters, Tessa (J.P.) Knudsen of  Kansas City, MO  Crystal (Jeremy) Harris of  Burlington and Dawn (Rob) Hammel of  Hamilton, IL  eight grandchildren and one great grandson; three sisters, Barb (James Bendlage) Fuchs of Cedar Rapids,  Mary Hoenig of Ft. Madison and Elizabeth (Carl) Hierstein of Ft. Madison; several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ruth Eid and brothers in law, Jim Hoenig and Chuck Fuchs.
Per her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory.  The family will meet with friends from 10-11 AM on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Sacred Heart Church.  The memorial mass will follow at 11 AM with Reverend Gary Beckman officiating.   Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.
