Jon J. Heyland, 71, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 7:13 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born on July 10, 1954 in Burlington, IA to Frank & Barbara Goodwin Heyland. He married Christine E. Ertz on October 12, 1974 in Dodgeville, IA. He founded Floorcrafters in Fort Madison in 1976 where he owned and operated the business from the same location for 50 years. He loved the store and used its resources to support his family, its employees, the local Fort Madison community, and missionaries around the world. He gave his life to the Lord in and around 1984 and served faithfully as the pastor of Harvest Bible Fellowship for 22 years. He dedicated his life to spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to everyone he came into contact with. He ministered to hundreds of people offering support in any way he could, expecting nothing in return. He positively impacted thousands of people through his business, church, and walk with Christ. Jon was known for his good humor and quick wit, generosity to those in need, tender heart, and above all his heart for people and love for Christ.
Jon is survived by: his wife: Chris Heyland of Fort Madison, IA; 5-children: Chad (Stephanie) Heyland of Midland, MI, Nick (Crystal) Heyland of Johns Creek, GA, Carolyn Heyland of Phoenix, AZ, Jon (Jessica) Heyland of Overland Park, KS & Mark (Rachel) Heyland of Thousand Oaks, CA; 9-grandchildren: Madison (age 9), Max (age 6), Callie (age 2), Jack (age 10) James (age 8), Charlie (age 8) Henry (age 6), William (age 3) & Grace (age 6 months); 2-brothers: Michael Heyland of Jamaica, IA & Steve (Donna) Heyland of Burlington, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Heyland.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Harvest Bible Fellowship in Fort Madison. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Harvest Bible Fellowship with Pastor Bruce Goettsche officiating. A memorial has been established in Jon’s memory for the future homeless shelter in Fort Madison.
