Judith Ann Cashman Burgin, age 81, of West Point, lowa, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 5:50 PM at River Hills Village in Ft. Madison.
Born May 26, 1945 in Fort Madison, lowa, she was the daughter of Paul and Cornelia (Sug) Burrus Cashman. She married Ralph C. Burgin on June 29, 1973 at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison, lowa.
As a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Judith taught Spanish and English three years in Effingham Illinois. Her relationship with the SSNDs was always a strong bond throughout the ensuing years. Judith also enjoyed a thirty-eight year long teaching career at Central Lee High School, Donnellson, lowa. In 1989, she received her master’s degree in Spanish from the University of Northern lowa.  Most important to her were her devoted husband, Ralph, her extended family, friends, colleagues, and the successes of former students.
Judith had a zest for learning and travel-especially to Spanish-speaking countries. There were exciting trips planned nearly every summer, and each trip provided her with a new learning/teaching opportunity. She also had a love of reading.   She was a longtime member of the St. James Parish and sang in the choir in St. Paul, lowa.
Judith was an avid pen collector and served seven years on the Sheaffer Pen Museum Board of Directors, always learning more about the history and contributions of the W. A. Sheaffer Pen Company to the betterment of the Fort Madison community.
She is survived by her husband of 50 plus years, Ralph; sisters, Linda Doore of Burlington, lowa; Connie Hendricks of Jacksonville, Florida; brother Dan Cashman of Quinlan, Texas, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, a brother Robert Cashman, two brothers-in-law, a nephew; and two nieces.
Cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home, a private burial service will be held at a later date.
