King-Lynk Funeral Home obituary - Stephen Hay, 69, Fort Madison

Stephen L. Hay, 69, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 11:41 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on December 22, 1954 in Fort Madison, IA to Eldwin “Tex” & Shirley Goss Hay.  He graduated from Fort Madison High School.  Steve joined the U.S. Marine Corps in July of 1973, where he served in various locations.  He received a Navy Achievement Medal during his years in the service.  After his service, he worked at Kempker’s True Value, was a maintenance supervisor at the Fort Madison Health Center, was a steel worker for Carl A. Nelson Company and lastly in maintenance for the Keokuk Area Hospital.  He married Debra S. Hendren on July 24, 1982 in Cherry Point, NC.  He was a volunteer fireman for the Montrose Fire Department and enjoyed trap shooting at the Tri State Gun Club, where he is still a member.  He liked to work on his T-Bucket in his garage and enjoyed restoring various automobiles, motorcycles, tractors and whatever he could get his hands on.  In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing & golf.  He enjoyed boating and had various boats over the years.  He was good at anything that involved working with his hands, especially woodworking.  He took pride in his lawn & home and was very proud of his family.
Steve is survived by: his wife: Debra Hay of Fort Madison, IA; 3-sons: Chris (Rhonda) Hay of Solon, IA, Seabrook (Jodie) Hay of Fort Madison, IA & Shad (Kayla) Hay of Fort Madison, IA; 1-daughter: Heather (Travis) Carson of West Branch, IA; 7-grandchildren: Colton Hansel, Brenden Hay, Wyatt Hay, Danika Dotson, Kylee Hay, Aubrey Hay & Hayden Hay; 3-great grandchildren: Craig Hay, Kinsley Hansel & Scout Hansel; 9-nieces & nephews; 4-great nieces & nephews; 1-sister: Cindy (Dan) Boon of Fort Madison, IA & 1-half-sister: Stefanie Turner of Iowa City, IA.  He was preceded in death by: his parents & 3-brothers: Terry, Thad & Doug.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  A memorial service will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will be held at Soldiers’ Circle in Oakland Cemetery.  A memorial has been established in Steve’s memory.  Online condolences to the Hay family may be left at www.kinglynk.com.
