Susan Elizabeth Reichelt, 89, of Fort Madison, IA, formerly of Niota, IL, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 1:40 PM at her home at Birkwood Village Assisted Living in Ft. Madison.
She was born on October 13, 1936 in Ft. Madison to Paul and Alvina Cullen Dodge. On September 15, 1956 she married Thomas Reichelt in Ft. Madison; he passed away on March 29, 2004. Susan was a homemaker and also a waitress at the Palm’s for fifteen years. Susan was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She loved her family and took pride in attending all of their life events and activities. Susan very much enjoyed preparing holiday meals for her large family and loved decorating for those events. She was a faithful member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo where she was active in the Ladies club. She loved to craft and volunteered for many events at Ss. Peter and Paul and Aquinas Schools.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann (Timothy) Torgler of Montrose; two sons, Tom (Cindy) Reichelt of Katy, TX and Rob (Kim) Reichelt of Ft. Madison; daughter in law, Deanna Reichelt of Ft. Madison; twelve grandchildren, Michael (Kelli) Griffin, Sara (Ryan) Wertz, Matt Griffin, Cody (Lindsey) Torgler, Hannah Torgler, Emma Torgler, Lindsay (Ryan) Squyres, Thomas “TJ” Reichelt, Ashley (Eric) Yaley, Shayley (Devin) Keester, Brandon (Allyson) Reichelt and Alicia (Justin) Couch; seventeen great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David; a brother, Don Dodge and a sister, Peggy Older.
A rosary for Susan will be recited on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 9:15 AM, followed by the visitation until 11 AM. The funeral service will be at 11 AM all taking place at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
