King-Lynk Funeral Home obituary - Wilbert W. Nelson, 91, Fort Madison

Wilbert William Nelson, 91, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at his home.  He was born on March 2, 1934 in Fort Madison, IA to Ivan & Dorothy Hoffman Nelson.  He married Sandra Jean Hagmeier on May 4, 1957 in Keokuk, IA.  She preceded him in death on October 29, 1999.  He was a superintendent at the woodshop at the Iowa State Penitentiary for 42 years and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  He loved camping, boating and spending time with his family at his cabin.  He enjoyed spending his winters in Donna, TX and working in his shop, riding his scooter and taking care of anyone who needed help.
Wilbert is survived by: 1-daughter: Cindy (Kirk) Riley of Fort Madison, IA; 2-sons: Bruce (Julie) Nelson of Fort Madison, IA & Jeffry (Brandie) Nelson of Burlington, IA; 8-grandchildren: Lindsey Roberts, Rachael Roberts, Takota Nelson, Pamela Ruiz, Angie Mueller, Logan Nelson, Anthony Nelson & Emma Nelson and 6-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by: his parents, wife, 1-brother: Glen Rhoades & 2-sisters: Linda Horn & Wilma Price.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  A memorial service will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Dave Poland officiating.  Burial with military rites will be held at Soldiers’ Circle in Oakland Cemetery.  A memorial has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  Online condolences to the Nelson family may be left at the King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory website: www.kinglynk.com.
