Alice Rovene Cochran, 90, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 5:52 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at her home. Rovene was born on February 3, 1935 in rural Scotland County, MO to Earnest & Viva (Stehl) Walker. While attending Revere High School, Rovene played basketball, acted in plays and graduated as Valedictorian of her class in 1953. Rovene was united in marriage to Ronald Clark Cochran on March 7, 1954 at Peaksville Christian Church. He preceded her in death on March 23, 2025.
In addition to being a full time homemaker, Rovene worked for Clark County, MO ASCS office, Fort Madison daycare and was office manager for Bix Foundation Repair and later for Leon’s Roofing, both of Fort Madison. She also did tax preparations for hire. Rovene was known for being a great cook. She loved hosting her family for meals, especially during the holidays. Her grandkids always looked forward to her meal after the Rodeo parade. She was also known as an excellent seamstress, sewing many wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses. Rovene was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Fort Madison, where she was an event planner for weddings and funerals, a youth leader and a member of King’s Daughters and Ruth Circles. She was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes men’s and women’s basketball teams and the St. Louis Cardinals. Rovene loved supporting her grandchildren’s activities.
Rovene is survived by: 1-son: Bob (Marie) Cochran of Fort Madison, IA; 2-sisters: Melba (Jim) Crago & Patricia (Wayne) Marshall of Fulton, MO; 2-brothers: Robert Walker of Wayland, MO & Harold (Flo) Walker of West Burlington, IA; 1-daughter in law: Jill (Dennis) Pirri of Fort Madison, IA; 1-son in law: Jesse Reyes of Fort Madison, IA; 7-grandchildren: Shannon (Dave) Dannen & Karene Rosenbury of Grimes, IA; Anne (Adam) Kroll of Marion, IA; Michael Cochran, Jr. of Fort Madison, IA, Daniel (Kris) Cochran of Oconomowoc, WI, Katie (Brandon) Hunold of West Point, IA and a bonus granddaughter: Madison Pirri of Fort Madison, IA; 14-great grandchildren: Michael III, Kyleigh, Brody, Lilly, Cannon, Walker, Raven, Marshall, Bailey, Auggie, Fallon, Vivian, Quinn & Stella. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, her son, Michael E. Cochran, Sr., her daughter, Carol D. Reyes and a brother, Stanley E. Walker.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A graveside service at Claypoole Cemetery for both Ron & Rovene will be announced at a later date.
