Knights of Columbus Crown Free Throw Champions

Six youth now can advance to district competition.

LEE COUNTY - Four boys and two girls from the local Ft. Madison, Houghton and West Point areas, ages 9 to 14 were named local champions of the 2024 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship and have earned the right to compete at the district level. Knights of Columbus councils in Ft. Madison and Houghton sponsored the local competition at the Holy Trinity Elementary School on Sunday. Jan. 21. All youngsters ages 9 to 14 were eligible to participate.
The eleven-year-old boys’ champion was Colton Menke, while Hayden Welch won the 12-year-old division, and the 13-year-old boys’ winner was Drew Spinner. In the 14-year-olds' bracket, Carter Gehling was the boys' champion, and Jay Ellison was the runner up.
In the girls division, the 9-year-old champion was Emerson Welch, with Kenna Gehling the runner-up. In the 11-year-old division the winner was Presley Moeller.
Each contestant was allowed 15 free throw attempts in the contest. Each division winner was awarded a Knights of Columbus basketball.
Each of these winners can compete in the district competition to be held on March 2nd  in Cedar Rapids, with an eye toward moving on to the state competition to be held in Boone, Iowa on March 24, 2024.
