Lady Hawks drop last two

Notre Dame and No. 15 Keokuk down Central Lee in last three days.

BURLINGTON – Burlington Notre Dame’s Anna Engberg and Lauren Krieger each put up 18 points as the Nikes won at home over Central Lee’s Lady Hawks 54-34 in Southeast Iowa Superconference girls basketball Monday night.
Central Lee was led by Mya Lampe’s nine points on three 3-balls. Kenna Sandoval and Jayden Mueller each had seven for the Hawks.
Central Lee started strong in the first quarter and trailed by just one point 14-13 going into the second period, but the Nikes held Central Lee to just one field goal in that quarter as they stretched the lead to 16 at 31-15.
Central Lee would also hit a scoring drought in the third and fourth periods when they were held scoreless for five minutes at 22 points and trailed by as much as 28 points before Notre Dame began substituting and the Hawks were able to get some points up late.
Taylor Jones and Lizzy Mason each had five. Mason’s all came in the second half. Ellie Lake added a point for the Hawks (5-7, 5-12). Central Lee plays at Holy Trinity Catholic tonight with a 7 p.m. game tip.
The Hawks also dropped a cross-county game Friday when they traveled to 13-1 Keokuk who is currently ranked 15th in the state in 4A.
Mason had 10 points in the loss followed by Macy Doty and Sandoval with four each. Sandoval had 10 rebounds on the night.
Kendra Boatman, just a sophomore, led the Chiefs with 28 points and six assists. Camryn Atterberg had 12 points and Makenna Altgilbers had 11 each for Keokuk.
The Chiefs raced out to a 11-6 first quarter lead and held the Hawks to under 10 points in each quarter. Keokuk put up 22 points in the second quarter as they pulled out to a 33-15 first half lead and put the game away from there.
