DANVILLE – Central Lee’s Lady Hawks wrapped up a busy week with a split going 2-2 over the last eight days, but they almost went 3-1.
The Hawks fell 48-44 to Danville on the road Friday night after heading into the final quarter tied at 35.
Central Lee falls to 6-4 in Southeast Iowa Super Conference play and 7-7 overall with the loss. Danville improves to 6-3 and 8-6.
The Lady Hawks have an easier week this go round with home games against New London (0-10, 0-16) on Tuesday and West Burlington (3-8, 4-11) on Friday.
Nora Lampe spearheaded a strong first half with three 3-balls for nine points and a 25-20 Hawk advantage at the half. Lizzy Mason had six in the half. But Danville closed the gap in the third period tying the score at 31 with about two minutes prior to the fourth quarter. Danville started the game on a 6-0 run and held a five-point lead going into the second quarter, but that would be the last time they had a lead until the fourth quarter when they took a 35-37 lead. The Bears extended the lead to seven at 42-35, but the Hawks went on a 9-6 run over the final three minutes to cut the gap to three and couldn’t get any closer than that.
Mason led Central Lee with 13 points. Lampe had 12 and Kenna Sandoval added nine. Sandoval had seven boards and Mason had seven assists.
Junior Alaina Gourley led all scorers with 25 for Danville.
