Lady Hounds 8th at Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG – Fort Madison placed five of nine wrestlers Monday at the Williamsburg Girls' Invitational to help the Bloodhounds to a top-ten finish in the 29 team field.
Junior Mara Smith, who was ranked 3rd at 130 lbs. in the initial IAWrestle 2A rankings last week, went 2-1 on the day, falling to East Buchanon’s Destiny Krum, who is ranked No. 5 in the state at 135 in 1A.
Smith and Krum were tied at 3 at the end of the first period after Smith received two penalty points and then scored a 1-point escape with 15 seconds left in period 1. Krum scored a takedown eight seconds into the match and was able to keep control despite the penalty points until the end of the period.
