Lady Hounds get win over Central Lee

Lady Hawks fall Saturday after splitting with Mepo Friday

FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison Lady Hounds put their first back-to-back wins together in more than two weeks with an 8-4 win over Central Lee Saturday at Baxter Sports Complex.
The Bloodhounds put up three runs in each of the first two innings  and held a 6-3 lead before the defenses of both teams settled in.
Fort Madison put up insurance runs in the fourth and bottom of the sixth to hold on to the win.
Nile Menke and Lucia Darnell led the Hounds at the plate each going 3-4 with three singles. Menke scored three runs and Darnell drove in a couple runs. Ava Fuget and Kylie Lumino each contributed with two RBI.
Darnell got the win in the circle going all seven innings surrendering nine hits and two earned runs while fanning 10 and walking just one.
For the Hawks Kenna Sandoval went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored including a triple in a two-run first inning. Olivia Day had a couple hits and Jali Hawk had two RBI.

The Hawks scored a 5-3 win over SEI Super Conference front-runner Mediapolis on Friday to pull within a game and a half of the Bullettes at 4-3 (9-11 overall). Mediapolis won the opener 6-4 which was a make up of a rainout on Wednesday. The Hawks won the second game of the doubleheader.
The Bullettes scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning in the opener to get the win as Payton Harris held on in the bottom half to get the win for Mediapolis. Aubree Bunnell went 2-3 in the loss. Taylor Kratzer was 2-4 with a run scored.
In the nightcap, Elaina Barlow went the distance for Central Lee allowing three runs all earned on eight hits. Marie Young went 3-of-4 at the plate with a couple RBI and a run scored. Sandoval had a couple hits including a two-run homer in the bottom of the 2nd inning to left field.
Barlow held the Bullettes scoreless through the final four innings to preserve the win.
The Hawks host Danville Monday night, travel to West Burlington Tuesday night, and then play at the University of Iowa’s Bob Pearl Field on Wednesday against Washington. They have three more games in the second consecutive six-day week on the field.
The Bloodhounds (4-4 Southeast, 8-13 overall) host Fairfield Monday night in a double header at Baxter Sports Complex, and then travel to Burlington on Thursday for a single contest at 7:30 p.m. They travel to Davis County Friday night.
