Fort Madison girls down Fairfield
FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison girls volleyball team knocked off Fairfield to open Southeast Conference play Tuesday night at the Hound Dome in five-set fashion.
The Bloodhounds come out on top 3-2 with scores of 25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 15-12.
“This was a win built on pure determination. They were tired - physically and emotionally - but they never stopped fighting. They continued to make plays that seemed impossible to keep alive, not because it was easy, but because they refused to let each other down,” said Head Coach Kelly Knustrom.
“Those moments were a powerful reminder of the dedication and belief this team has in one another.”
HTC 3rd at Wilton, Lady Hawks go 1-3
WILTON – The Wapello tournament was moved to Wilton due to heat issues and Holy Trinity fought to a 3rd place finish after falling to Class 3A No. 8 Wilton in three sets 18-21, 21-18, 10-15. The Crusaders downed Central Lee in two sets 21-9, 21-11. They downed Columbus and Burlington Notre Dame in the third-place match.
Adalyn Kruse was 56/70 hitting with 25 kills. She also went 17/19 serving with two aces and 36 digs. Elizabeth Griffin had 27 digs was 13-of-13 hitting with six kills and 29 assists.
Kymber Jones and Kate Pieper both had 13 kills. Pieper went 27-of-29 serving with two aces, four blocks and 10 digs. Brynn Denning had 35 digs and was 22-of-23 serving.
Central Lee was led by Brylee Cook with 12 digs and 16 assists. Nora Lampe finished with nine kills and a block. Maggie Mullins had four aces on the night.
