FORT MADISON - The LCAA held their annual awards program at the Elks Club in Fort Madison on Saturday, February 17th.  Awards were given to those who qualified having the most points on a scale that earns points for your position in the tournament based on inches of fish caught.
Scott Seager walked away with most of the bronze trophies for his high-point scoring;  Seager finished first place and ‘Angler of the Year’ in the boaters division, but also took the 2023 Classic ‘Classic Championship’ as well as finishing with the ‘Big Bass for the Year’ and the 2023 ‘Big Bass of the Year’.  Chad Saltzgaver earned the ‘2023 Co-Angler of the year’ as well as ‘Classic Co-Angler Champion Award’.
Ryan Culbertson finished 2nd place ‘Angler of the Year’ with Jeff Eaves finishing third place. Dan Waters finished second place and Bill Britton fished third in the Co-Angler division.
The Lake Cooper Angling Association is a “Bump and Dump” angling club, whereas fish are measured immediately after caught and released at the same spot they were caught.  Measurements are verified and recorded on score cards (similar to a golf score card).   The angler with the most inches recorded for their best five fish wins the tournament.
The LCAA was the first Iowa club to use exclusively the length measurement system and has done so since 1986. This method helps keep the resource in good shape as stress, handling and hot weather are avoided thusly preventing the fish from going into shock.
The Lake Cooper Angling Association is open to new anglers as well as accomplished bass fishermen.  No boat is needed as the system is set up for boaters and non-boaters.  Women and teenage anglers are also involved and prove to be very competitive.  For further info, email Jim Noll at Jimnoll@mchsi.com
