FORT MADISON - The LCAA has sponsored the second of three Open events this summer with this one on Lake Cooper (pool 19).
Great weather, low wind and great temperatures finally found it’s way to the river and was welcomed by the forty-two anglers participating in the LCAA Open Bass Fishing Tournament held in Fort Madison last Saturday.  Fishermen launched at Ft. Madison, Willow Patch ramp at safe light and returned for the weigh in at 2 p.m.  Fishing was good and good weights were recorded.   Team anglers Jeff and Richie Eaves of Fort Madison and Nauvoo, Ill bagged first place with five fish at 15.51 lbs. Followed closely with five fish at 14.89 lbs were the Burlington father son duo of Chris and Tyson Powers.  They also boated the second largest bass at 4.08 lbs.
The third-place team consisted of David Son, Donnellson, IA and Rob Needam, Kirksville, Mo. who also connected a five-bass limit weighing 14.67 lbs. Payout was to five team places.  Fourth-place finisher Fort Madison’s’ Scott/Seager team at 14.44 lbs and also had the big bass of the tournament with a 4.16 lbs. largemouth.
The fifth place and final cut for the payoff was the Jared and Justin Flockhart team from Keokuk/Kahoka who managed to wrangle five bass to their live well for a 14.40 lb. weight.
The Ft. Madison event was the second of a three-tournament format where points are allocated in proportion to the accumulated weights.  The third and final event will be held on Lake Sugema, at Keosauqua on August 5th where total angler points will determine the overall champion.
Information and applications for the final event can be found on the LCCA Facebook page or email address.  Telephonic, message or email inquiries - contact: Scott Seager at 319-795-4026; sceager@yahoo.com
The Lake Cooper Angling Assoc. was organized in 1986 and continues after 37 years providing SE Iowa aspiring anglers with a conservation minded club tournament format.
Many new anglers without a boat fit right in the club tournament format and in fact, is an important tenet of our organization.  Past projects included a Riverview Park dredging project, Countless Kids fishing derbies, Food Pantry meat donations, construction and operation assist with one of the most advanced fish release boats (Ultimate Release Boat, Inc.) and logistic support for the Lake Cooper Tournament Group, Inc. to support one of the largest fishing programs in the tri-states, to say just a few.
The LCAA is looking for both boaters and nonboaters.  Male or females are welcome as well as teenagers (with stipulations) and meet on the third Thursday each month at the Fort Madison Elks Club for business meetings as well as drawings for boat assignment in one of our twelve club tournaments.
