FORT MADISON – Two local students from Fort Madison High School, Charley Huebner and Rainer Jonson, are set to showcase their talents in the upcoming Iowa FFA Bid Calling Invitational. Both sophomores, Charley resides in Fort Madison, while Rainer is from Wever, Iowa. They are active members of the Fort Madison FFA & Ag Department.
The Iowa FFA Bid Calling Invitational, part of the Iowa Beef Expo, will take place on February 8, 2025 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa. This event provides a unique platform for Iowa FFA students in grades 8-12 to develop and demonstrate their auctioneering skills. Charley and Rainer are among the 13 students statewide who have registered to compete.
In preparation for the competition, Charley and Rainer are receiving expert guidance from Corey Fraise, President of the Iowa Auctioneers Association and local Owner/Auctioneer of Fraise Auction and Real Estate, and Terry Hoenig, Vice President of the Fort Madison FFA Foundation. Both mentors meet with the students on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m. to teach them the auction chant and help them hone their skills for the event.
Corey Fraise expressed his excitement about mentoring the students: “It’s inspiring to see young individuals take an interest in the auctioneering profession. Charley and Rainer have shown great enthusiasm and commitment, and we’re thrilled to support their journey.”
The public can support Charley and Rainer, as well as all other contestants, by attending the event and bidding on the items that each will be selling.
