LEE COUNTY — Residents and visitors alike are invited to hit the road and discover the people, places, and stories that make Lee County unique during the 2026 Love Lee County Tour, “Where the Journey is the Destination” taking place Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The free, self-guided driving tour will showcase a diverse collection of locally owned businesses, attractions, farms, artisans, and historic destinations throughout the county. From scenic rural settings and handcrafted goods to local history and unique shopping experiences, the tour offers participants an opportunity to explore Lee County at their own pace while supporting small businesses and community organizations.
Made possible through the generous sponsorship of Pilot Grove Savings Bank, the Love Lee County Tour continues to grow as a celebration of local entrepreneurship, tourism, and community pride. The bank's support helps keep participation affordable for businesses while expanding promotional efforts that attract visitors from throughout southeast Iowa and beyond.
"The Love Lee County Tour is an opportunity to showcase the incredible variety of experiences available right here in our county," said Shannon Wellman, cheesemaker at Hinterland Dairy. "Many people are surprised by the number of unique destinations they discover. Whether you're interested in history, shopping, agriculture, art, food, or simply enjoying a weekend drive through beautiful countryside, there's something for everyone."
Among the featured stops is 1884 on the Bluff, a beautifully restored historic property overlooking the Mississippi River. The venue combines rich local history with modern hospitality, offering visitors a chance to experience one of the area's most distinctive event venues while enjoying breathtaking views.
History enthusiasts will also want to visit Old Fort Madison Preservation Foundation, where visitors can learn about the region's frontier history and the ongoing efforts to preserve one of Iowa's most important historical landmarks.
Another featured stop is Cahill-Pribyl Jewelry, a longstanding family-owned business known for its quality craftsmanship, personalized service, and deep roots within the community.
The tour also highlights the creativity, agriculture, and entrepreneurship that define Lee County. Visitors can stop at Hinterland Dairy to enjoy cheese and ice cream made right on their farm. Art lovers can explore Chestnut Hill Pottery, home to multiple talented artists working in pottery, painting, fiber arts, and letterpress. Shoppers can browse western wear, boots, and boutique fashions at Four B Tack & More, while families looking for fun can enjoy goat yoga and a bouquet bar at Wendland Family Farm.
This year's tour also welcomes several exciting new participants, adding even more variety for visitors to discover. Guests can enjoy custard, coffee and delicious offerings at Grass Roots Market & Cafe, explore equipment, tools, and everyday solutions at P6 Equipment & Supply, and browse fashionable accessories and gifts at The Girl's Side. Treasure hunters will enjoy stopping at Riverside Resale Shop, where pre-loved finds and unique items await, while visitors can also experience the welcoming atmosphere of The Grandstand and satisfy their sweet tooth with handcrafted baked goods from Blue Umbrella Bakery. The addition of these businesses highlights the continued growth of the Love Lee County Tour and showcases the entrepreneurial spirit that continues to thrive throughout the county.
Throughout the weekend, visitors will have opportunities to meet business owners, learn about their crafts and trades, hear the stories behind their ventures, and discover products and experiences unique to southeast Iowa. Many participating locations will offer demonstrations, tours, special activities, refreshments, and exclusive promotions.
"One of the things that makes this tour special is the opportunity for people to connect directly with the people behind the businesses," Wellman said. "Every stop has a story. These are entrepreneurs, artists, farmers, and community leaders who have invested their passion and hard work into making Lee County a wonderful place to live and visit."
The event encourages residents to become tourists in their own county while welcoming visitors from neighboring communities to discover destinations they may never have experienced before.
As interest in local tourism and supporting small businesses continues to grow, organizers hope the Love Lee County Tour inspires participants to revisit their favorite stops long after the weekend ends and continue supporting local businesses throughout the year.
Maps, participant information, and tour updates are available through the Love Lee County Tour's social media channels and promotional materials distributed throughout the region and at each tour location.
