Bench trial finds Keokuk man guilty of multiple counts

LEE COUNTY - A Keokuk man has been found guilty of multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor and now faces 20 years in a state prison.
On Feb.  28, 2024, Jeffrey Lee McKay, 54, of Keokuk was arrested and charged with Two (2) Counts of Sexual Abuse. The charges stemmed from allegations that McKay committed sexual abuse upon a minor relative on or about June 1, 2021, through and including August 31, 2021, and on or about January 19, 2024, through and including February 1, 2024, in Keokuk, Iowa.
On May 5, 2025, the case came before the Court for a Bench Trial. On June 6, 2025, the Court found Jeffrey McKay Guily on both charges of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, Class C Felonies.
September 5, 2025, McKay was sentenced to the maximum of 20 years (the two ten-year sentences were ordered to run consecutive to one another) within the Iowa Department of Corrections. He is also subject to a lifetime special sentence, and sex offender registration requirements. McKay remains in custody pending transport to the Iowa Department of Corrections where he will begin serving his sentence.
The Keokuk Police Department was the responding agency and led the investigation on the case. This matter was prosecuted by the Lee County Attorney.
