BURLINGTON – Prepare yourself for January 18th’s Miles of Hope Radiothon, Presented by The Capitol and 93.5 FM KKMI, a heartfelt event aiming to raise money to provide gas cards for families in southeast Iowa who face the financial burden of traveling long distances for medical care.
Founded by Anna Ertz in memory of her son Jackson, who passed away in 2014 after a brief but intense battle with cancer, the Miles of Hope Radiothon honors Jackson’s legacy and provides much-needed support for families facing similar challenges.
“Our lives forever changed June 26, 2014 when my son Jackson was airlifted from West Burlington to Iowa City Children’s Hospital. He was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. His cancer journey only lasted 47 days before passing away August 11, 2014, Ertz said.
“Family and friends visited Jackson every single day, sometimes multiple times a day because of his unstable condition. Our family is forever grateful for the miles that people put in for him, and we cannot imagine having to factor in gas money for that level of support.”
On the day of the event, all members of the community are invited to gather at The Capitol Theater for live music, emotional stories from families who have experienced similar journeys, and a chance to contribute to this life-changing cause. The event will be broadcast live on 93.5 FM KKMI, allowing supporters from all over to participate.
Ertz continued, “Saturday, January 18th will be a day for us to acknowledge families facing hardship and say, 'We’ve got you.’ We know what you’re going through because we went through it, too. You’re not alone.”
The Miles of Hope Radiothon serves as both a fundraising opportunity and a reminder of the importance of community support during difficult times. Attendees and donors can feel confident knowing that every contribution will directly benefit families in need.
