LEE COUNTY – Mediapolis Telephone Company, DBA MTC Technologies is proud to announce that it has been awarded $17,280,882.33 in the latest round of the Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grant, marking a significant step toward enhancing internet accessibility for the residents of Des Moines and Lee County. This achievement comes as part of the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) #008 grant, a vital opportunity that emphasizes the state's commitment to bridging the digital divide.
The total grant money allocated for the state of Iowa for this round of funding amounts to an impressive $148,960,000, signaling a strong statewide effort to ensure that all communities, regardless of their location, have access to reliable and high-speed internet services.
The allocated funds will be utilized for the development of a comprehensive broadband network, covering an expansive area of 158 square miles. The region encompasses rural areas in both Des Moines and Lee Counties surrounding the communities of Augusta, Denmark, Fort Madison, Sawyer, West Point and Wever. The project's scope encompasses a diverse set of communities, and its successful implementation will have a far-reaching impact on the socio-economic landscape, opening new opportunities for education, business, and social connectivity.
