FORT MADISON - A lot has been happening regarding Old Fort Madison Preservation’s mission to repair, restore and revitalize Old Fort Madison and build a new Living History Center and much of it will be revealed at the OFMP membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, at OFMP headquarters, 705 Ave, G, in downtown Fort Madison.
Not a member of OFMP, but wanting to be in the know? Just stop in on July 27, fill out a membership application, pay the $25 annual fee and membership is complete.
Among the recent highlights, City and OFMP representatives are in the process of doing an inventory of City-owned artifacts, materials and supplies related to the fort and its operations using a new inventory/cataloging system purchased by OFMP.
The OFMP Building Committee is finalizing architectural plans, and the engineer is awaiting permission from the Army Corps of Engineers to proceed.

A new user-friendly web site is now up and running at www.HistoricaOldFortMadison and, while the OFMP Events Committee has enjoyed success over the last 12 months, it is working on a schedule to do even more in 2027.
A total of $2,211,446 has been pledged or collected, which is 63.1% of OFMP’s $3.5 million project goal, leaving $1,288,554 yet to be obtained. Applications for a substantial state CAT grant and funding from Fort Madison SIRRC are pending.
Light refreshments will be served as OFMP members hear still more progress reports on OFMP’s project. This will also be an opportunity for members to purchase OFMP merchandise – such as t-shirts, hats, and the 2026 limited edition 500-puzzle. All purchases are cash or check only (made put to OFMP).
An official kickoff to OFMP’s capital campaign will be held Friday, Sept. 25, at the Fort Madison Riverfront Pavilion where several announcements will be made before hundreds of citizens and public officials. The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., complete with patriotic music and picnic fare, followed by a 6:30 p.m. program.
Those planning to attend the kickoff are asked to RSVP by Sept. 21 by calling or texting 319-470-3642 or going to info@HistoricOldFortMadison.org
